The official forms for an income tax return ("Einkommenssteuererklärung") are available at your local tax office or online. You may do so either by using the official forms or by forwarding the forms online/ electronically using specialised software such as ELSTER. You have the opportunity to submit an annual income tax return to your local tax office ("Finanzamt"), and also to get a tax refund.
In addition to a mandatory tax return, you can also file an income tax return voluntarily. Please find out in good time whether you have to file a tax return. An income tax return is mandatory for some people depending on their individual situation.
